A New Gundam Model

By on Mar 14, 2022

I finished a couple of Gundams. Is it Gundams or just Gundam? I don’t know. I finished the one that I painted all black.     I was able to find a new model and was able to finish that one up too. I actually had a hard time with it. I cut one thing off the sprue in the wrong place so I had to glue it on. I also somehow messed up a leg connector so he appears to have one leg that’s longer than the other.     Still turned out pretty well. After my frustration with this I’m not sure if I’ll keep doing them. I don’t know yet. I have been eyeing a few online so maybe I’ll make one more.

More Gundam model building…

I started a new model yesterday. Actually it is the same model I just finished. I went to a few stores to find a different kit but none of them panned out. So when I went grocery shopping I picked up another one like I just finished. I thought I’d mix it up a little with some paint. I had some black primer so I painted the sprue trees before I started putting it together. All black. It looks kinda cool. I’m not sure if it will stay black but I kinda like how it looks.

Finally Made a T-Shirt I Actually Like!

By on Mar 4, 2022

I have to say I am pretty stoked. We have a t-shirt printer at work and while we were making some progress learning how it worked, our results were disappointing. We just tried some new pre-treated shirts and that changed everything. With this development I really started trying to figure out what I wanted to put on a shirt. I came up with this…     It is a simple yet interesting design I did a while ago. It was inspired by Ukiyo-e art so I went to Google translate and threw “knit” and “dog” in the bottom corner. I know it probably actually translates as “umbilical” “fur animal” but honestly I’m not that worried about it. If there are any Japanese readers out there I would appreciate a better translation.     The picture kind stinks but it actually turned out pretty great. I know it is good because I...

Putting together a bargain Gundam… Oppa Gundam Style… Sorry.

I love LEGOS. There is something satisfying about following the directions and assembling them. They are just above a mindless task. They are like a puzzle of sorts.     While shopping the other day I decided to extend my alone time, away from the chaos of home, by walking through the toy aisle before checking out. There, in the clearance section, was a Gundam model that was marked down to $3, so I thought I’d give it a go.     I know that these can become obsessive. I have a few friends that used to get together every week to assemble their Gundams and depending on the complexity they could take months to complete. This was a lower grade model so I figured I could get it done rather quick but speed wasn’t really the concern. I wanted something that would be easy like LEGOs.     I took my time, cleaning each piece after...

A Little World of My Own

By on Feb 24, 2022

I found a podcast that I just loved. It was right up my alley. It is called Video Palace and it was produced by Shudder. Alot like Polybius, it focused on an urban legend. A legend of white VHS tapes. Tapes that when viewed changed the viewer, perhaps cursing them.     I don’t know if white tapes are a real urban legend, but I kind of doubt it. The podcast does a good job of making them seem like they are a real thing though. Like something old collectors look for and covet. The podcast is limited to only 10 episodes that are all under 30 minutes. The story is well paced with each episode leaving you wanting more. It gets pretty creepy too. I couldn’t listen to it while running because there were some pretty effective jump-scares. The upside was I knocked out this little idea I’ve had knocking around in my head for a little while. The best part...

Terrifying day for the birds

I don’t know what this is. From everything I’ve found, this is real. There have been some explanations but they all seem about as convincing as, “It was a weather balloon.”       I don’t really have much more to say. I’ve added a bunch of links to various news sources…   https://www.cnn.com/2022/02/18/world/blackbird-swarm-crash-mexico-scn/index.html https://cbs12.com/news/local/video-shows-hundreds-of-birds-falling-out-of-the-sky-in-mexico https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2022/feb/14/why-did-birds-fall-from-sky-in-mexico-probably-a-predator-experts-say-aoe https://www.ksat.com/news/2022/02/16/viral-video-shows-hundreds-of-birds-fall-from-sky-in-mexico/

Charlie, the lovable big foot

By on Feb 22, 2022

My kids had a passing obsession with the show We Bare Bears. They watched it constantly for about two weeks and then never wanted anything to do with it again. It’s a cute show. It’s about 3 bear brothers: a grizzly bear, a panda bear and a polar bear. One of the recurring side characters is Charlie.     Charlie is a sasquatch, or big foot. He is a good natured fellow, even though he isn’t the brightest. I fell in love with the character as soon as I saw him. Turns out he is voiced by ex-professional skateboarder turned actor, Jason Lee. Once I found out that little tid-bit I liked the character design even more.     With his bushy mustache, drawn as if he has a permanent smile, it makes him look a little like Lee’s television character Earl. I still think My Name is Earl is an underrated gem of TV. The character design is...
