Bulbarsaur, all finished up.

By on Feb 21, 2022

Yep, finished this little guy up. I’ll tell you, it looks much better in real life. The color really breaks down when zoomed in this far. I am pretty happy with how it turned out. It was fun. I am enjoying doing some light drawing again. I will probably do a little more work on this digitally and make it into a bookmark but I don’t think I’m going to do any stickers. I’m still all stickered out.

Bulbasaur… yeah another Pokémon

There is one sure way to kill your readership and that is to not post! I’ve been focusing on other things and by that, apparently, I mean destroying everything I built last year.     Things are coming around though. I’ve been more mindful of things. I was taking on too much for a while and while it was nice saying “yes” I was really wearing thin. It all came to a head and I had to break some plans. I felt horrible both because I was physically ill and I let someone down. The cold passed but the guilt lingered.     I decided to take a step back and, in what seemed like a contradiction at the time, get more structured. By focusing on structuring my time, I am able to be more in the moment. I’m also scheduling free time. That way I actually have some.     I’ve been sleeping more and running more. Running has been...

Getting a little ink down.

By on Jan 19, 2022

Ok, so I might change my mind but the new Weekend album is pretty good. Dawn FM was a fun listen. I haven’t really been a fan of The Weekend. I’ve heard a few of his songs, and they were ok, but not really anything that caught my attention; however, one of the websites I frequent gave the new album a glowing review so I thought I’d check it out. I listened to it while running and ended up adding a few minutes to my cool down so I could finish it.     That was only one listening, so I might change my mind because it usually takes me a few listens to get a feel for an album. Some albums fall apart on that first listen, I’m looking at you Sonic Silk, while most have parts that bug me but I often soften to over time, DJ Shadow’s The Mountain Will Fall falls into that category. Often the latter become some of my favorite albums. So now that...

Strange occurrences…

By on Jan 17, 2022

This weekend some strange things happened that I can’t exactly explain. I’m trying to lock them away in the memory vault but they keep nagging at me. On Saturday we all left the house together to grab a quick lunch and pick up a few groceries. We weren’t gone very long, anywhere between an hour and an hour-and-a-half. When I was bringing in the groceries I walked around the table and kicked something on the floor. I put the bags down and looked to see what I kicked. There was a coffee mug on the floor. It was clean with nothing in it. I picked it up and told my youngest to not leave stuff like that on the floor and she just stared back at me blankly. A few hours later I was in the kitchen cooking and my wife came around the table and kicked something. She too kicked a mug that was on the floor in the same spot. Different mug, but it was in the same place the...

Speaking of Sleep…

By on Jan 13, 2022

I don’t know why but I’ve been really leaning into esoteric rituals and olde timey magics lately. I made black eyed peas for New Year’s, I’m back to quiet meditative drawing and I’ve even been taking vitamins. Not to mention, I’m starting to really embrace this whole sleep thing. I haven’t been drawing as much but I’m feeling pretty good.     I’m getting back into drawing but not like I was for a while there. I think I lost focus for a while but honestly that is just a bunch of navel-gazing. I’m trying to balance things out a little better. I made some big steps last year when it came to KnitDog and with those steps came some reevaluation. I’m still working through that but I’m making some progress. It’s that question I always struggle with, “What is an artist and am I really...
