Mmmmm…Summertime

By on Jul 10, 2017

Summer is here. Well, it has been here for a little while but Wisconsin decided to take its sweet time bringing in the warm weather. It’s here now and I just want to jump around like Steve Martin when the phone book arrives in The Jerk. We went up North for the Fourth of July but I couldn’t wait to start my holiday. My wife could not stop laughing when she got home from work. I was sitting outside with the most stereotypical Wisconsin snack of cheese curds and beer. I didn’t grow up in Wisconsin but I’m here now so I might as well act like it. This seemed like a good way to start our vacation so I carried the theme throughout. We were able to spend most of our time up north on the water. I probably, no I definitely, spent too much time in the sun. I had more than a couple beers floating in a giant donut tube. It was like living in Homer Simpson’s...

Booze Post

I have established that I like beer. I mentioned last year that I gave in and tried some seasonal pumpkin beers. That didn’t turn out too bad. There were a few that were, to quote “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,” “quite atrocious,” but most weren’t too bad.Now that a new season is upon us, I’ve decided to start tasting the seasonals. I fell in love with a seasonal beer along time ago and had my heart broken. It was an Irish stout called Snake Chaser. I would look for it every St. Patrick’s Day and every year it would be in fewer and fewer stores. Now I own a pint glass for a beer that no longer exists. I’ve tried to find a replacement but none have filled that particular hole. Since then I tend to stick to things that are more reliable, but sometimes variety is nice. Now that the Spring seasonals are coming out I thought...

Beer Talk

Just look at that beauty. I have discovered a new cooler at my local liquor store. I primarily focus on micro-brews and specifically Wisconsin micro-brews but the cooler I’ve been exploring lately has imports. Honestly, I don’t know enough about import beers. I’ve heard rumors that there are no “true” import beers in America. There are foreign recipes that are then brewed here which is why our Guinness doesn’t taste like the real thing, but that could be totally wrong……OK, I’m back. Just did some fruitless research and I still know no more about importing beer. Anyway, this new cooler has some interesting new options. I was going to a friend’s house for an evening of drinking and Dungeons & Dragons so when I saw this I knew it just had to be.All-in-all it wasn’t bad. The alcohol content was pretty high so it was a...

Faulty Memories

When I started college, I was working at a big department store in their shoe department. I worked really early hours starting around 3am. I had several radios positioned throughout the stock room all tuned to the local indy station. 3am wasn’t the busiest time for the DJs so I would often call in and they would play my requests. I would win free tickets to shows almost weekly until they put a rule in place saying you could only win once a month. Those were the early days of craft breweries. One local brewery that made a hard push was Henry Weinhard’s. Henry Weinhard’s had a Red Lager. I was not of age but even then the independent nature of the brewery appealed to me. They expanded their advertising to include a Root Beer. The root beer was from the days of prohibition. Weinhard’s started brewing it to keep the brewery from going under. Being that...

Beer

I like beer. Nope, that is incorrect. I love beer. Probably a little too much. I have a habit of making things a habit. This is something that I know about myself. When I take an interest in something I explore it to its limits. Beer is a good example. I will not drink Budweiser or Bud Light. I will not. I would much rather drink water. I will occasionally drink Miller, but that is unavoidable in Milwaukee. I like what is becoming know as “hobby” beers or “craft” beers. That is a bit of a misnomer, especially here in Milwaukee. We have a few local breweries that are actually quite big. MKE is one that I like. Their staple Louie’s Demise is my go-to. One thing I cannot stand are flavored beers or alcoha-pops. As far as I’m concerned Mike’s Hard Lemonade is one of the worst things to happen to alcoholic beverages. There is a reason they market to “manly men” and that is because no...
