Nightmare Fuel

I was going to do some drawing last night and hopefully wrap up my latest sticker or maybe make some progress on my new Gravity Falls project but I made enchiladas instead. So instead of a progress post I thought I would just post some nightmare fuel. Enjoy!

A few years ago I was at a used book store and ran across a coffee table book of Mad Magazine covers. I was always attracted to the illustrations in Mad and to a lesser extent Cracked. The crude jokes and surprisingly good illustrations totally drew me in, not to mention the foldover pages. I started flipping through the book and was mesmerized by this cover…     I bought the book just to spend more time looking at that cover. The grotesque nature of it combined with the amazing detail and skill blew me away. I started trying to find more and more about this illustrator. The problem is there wasn’t much about him to be found. It seemed his work had been lost to time. Buried and overshadowed by Robert Crumb and so many others that seemed to be influenced by this man’s work.     It turns out he did some short runs for Timely Comics, which would one...

The worst part of it is I have a sneaking suspicion that the final product is going to be crap. Only time will tell I guess. In other news, I stumbled upon my next little project. I have rambled before about my love for Gravity Falls. I’ve wanted to do something with it as a theme but nothing has really felt right. This weekend...

Silly Work Project

I had a job come across my desk today at work. Every once in a while a sales person will want to take advantage of our equipment but they don’t know how to operate it I will get an email like this…   “Hey can you put a picture of a bad ass lion above this and print out a couple of posters for me and my kid?”   If you think that is inspirational and worthy of a poster then good on you, but I must spend too much time at the zoo because all I can think is, “I don’t think lions live next to lambs.” I’ve watched my fair share of nature documentaries and I don’t remember any of them commenting on or analyzing the lion’s reaction to the passive aggressive nature of the lamb. Actually, I had no idea lambs were passive aggressive by nature. It kind of makes sense if you think about it… wait no it doesn’t. I...
