Not a mandala and nothing representational. Just a bunch of lines. Actually inspired by my daughter’s bag that I had just picked up off the floor. Not knowing it was open, lip gloss, hair bows and small toys everywhere… This should occupy my evenings for the next few days. Need to take a little breather from everything. Summer is almost over, which is weird because it seems like it just got here. Had to get the kids all registered for school and school supplies in hand.
Do you ever have one of those days where things just aren’t working out for you? It might be something mundane or even something you’ve practiced alot but for whatever reason it just isn’t working for you? That described my evening last night. My daughter and I spent the evening drawing… well… I should say I spent the evening erasing. After the marathon that the hawarthia became, I thought I’d just do some mindless/meditative drawing. I started 2 mandalas that quickly went south, actually the first one started ok but started crumbing the more effort I put into it. I managed to achieve the exact opposite effect that I was looking for. I tried to do some character studies…crap. Draw some trees…crap. Just some line work…ugh. I finally finished it. It was slow going but we are finally here. There wasn’t really anything I did different, I just added a level of complexity that exponentially added to the time. I’m not real sure what I am going to do for the final piece. I will probably make some stickers because that is the basis of this project but I feel like this should be more. I have been working on developing those drawings on wood and I’m thinking this might look good printed on a wood with a nice grain with a handmade frame. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. I still have to print some to see how those fine lines turn out but I am alot more confident about it now. I mentioned my creeping suspicion that this ultimately wouldn’t turn out but I think I just wasn’t open to the possibilities of what it could be. Stickers might still be a no go...
Nothing I hate more than when I get a call from my wife. That doesn’t sound good but it is true. She doesn’t really use her phone so if she is calling, it isn’t good. Last night I was taking my nephew home and my phone began to ring. Luckily no one was bleeding but there was a crisis. My youngest daughter was removing her headphones from her brand new tablet and the tip of the headphone plug broke off. It was stuck in the tablet. I was tasked with picking up supplies to fix it. You know those little straws used for mixing cream into your coffee? After some research, it turns out these are the primary tools for removing broken plugs.
