Picked a color palette but mostly just watching cartoons.

By on Aug 18, 2021

I’ve selected a color palette. Still just taking my time. It’s hard not to be disappointed with a lack of progress but that is what I want to focus on with this. That and I’m trying to push what I can do with the blending of grays. I am primarily using a 20% cool grey but then blending it with white to get different levels of gray. Some lighter, some darker. I’m trying to do that with the blues too but not as much.     My daughter and I are watching Death Note. She is at the age where even getting her to do something she likes can be a chore. It is ok, I try to use the nights she flakes out on me to do stuff like make enchiladas. So far I’m impressed with Death Note. I heard about it when it came out in 2006 but I was already past my anime phase at that point. I later heard that they made a live action movie of the series which generally...

Macro Room

By on Aug 17, 2021

So there is this Youtube thing that my youngest and I are obsessed with right now. It is called Macro Room. This was the first video we came across…     We watched it and the next night my daughter asked to watch it again. So we did before moving on to a few 80’s music videos. I later decided to look into it a little further. I stumbled upon their channel. One of the things we like to watch are slow motion videos. Slow motion seems to unlock a hidden side of nature that we miss because life just moves too fast sometimes. Macro Room takes your standard slow motion video and steps it up…     They add that little extra artistic element that elevates it. It mixes art and technology. They mess around and experiment with different cameras while exploring the world in ways that are usually hidden, whether it is speed or size. Some of their videos...

Laying down some ink

By on Aug 11, 2021

I love quiet Sunday mornings, just sitting around, drinking coffee and doing some drawing. I like drawing at night too but something about a Sunday morning seems special. I started putting down some ink on this. Not alot of thought here. Just playing around with lines. I’m going to color this, probably with colored pencils. I’m not real concerned with where it is going. It’s more of just a palate cleanser. Enjoying where it is taking me. I am looking for a new podcast. I’m looking for something with a bit of a supernatural or cryptid theme. I stumbled across Camp Monsters podcast. It is pretty great. Well produced, well written and acted stories about mythical creatures. I really enjoyed the first few seasons but now it is on a break so I’m looking for something new. I’ll let you know if I stumble across anything...

Oh Henry! No… J. Henry

By on Aug 10, 2021

I finally did something that I always wanted to do. I finally toured a distillery. A small distillery in Dane, Wisconsin called J. Henry. I have done brewery tours in the past and was supremely disappointed. They were good tours but alot of the machinery used in bottling looks like the machinery used at my work. Neat, but too much like work. I’ve done a few of them at this point and always walked away with the same feeling. That brings us to the J. Henry Distillery tour.     J. Henry is a small bourbon distillery just outside Madison, Wisconsin. They teamed with the University of Wisconsin to grow heirloom, red corn that was originally grown on the farm in the 1940’s. That attention to detail is used in every step of the process. They use Wisconsin harvested wood for the construction of their barrels, their rickhouses take advantage of our changing seasons...

Just Filling Pages

By on Aug 5, 2021

Not a mandala and nothing representational. Just a bunch of lines. Actually inspired by my daughter’s bag that I had just picked up off the floor. Not knowing it was open, lip gloss, hair bows and small toys everywhere…     This should occupy my evenings for the next few days. Need to take a little breather from everything. Summer is almost over, which is weird because it seems like it just got here. Had to get the kids all registered for school and school supplies in hand.
