Lunch Bag – Moana’s Pua

By on Mar 22, 2017

My oldest has a field trip today to see the Symphony. My girls are currently obsessed with Moana and I needed something quick so Pua was the answer. We had a minor crisis with our dog. Poor guy had a cyst on his leg rupture. There was lots of blood and crying. The crying was all done by my youngest who through her tears kept asking, “Is Zero get dead?”Zero didn’t seem to mind much. He didn’t cry or whimper so I’m hoping it wasn’t too painful. We were able to get him all cleaned up and stop the bleeding but the poor guy is getting old. I have to take him to the vet today and have everything checked out, but he should be just fine. It was a tense few hours trying to assess the damage and try to figure out how we should handle it. Nevertheless he is a tough old bugger. I did have to get up early to clean and dress his wound so I wasn’t able to...

Dragonair Drawing

I have been coveting high-quality colored pencils for some time now. When I was in high school my teacher loaned me a set of colored pencils that were amazing and amazingly expensive. I used them over a break, probably Spring Break, but I can’t remember which now. Since using them I have always wanted a set. Every now and again I will be at the art supply store and I will eye those pencils but the basic set is about $150 and I cannot just drop that kind of dough on some pencils. I have a mortgage. Lo and behold, there is a store that sells them individually. Sure they are more expensive in the long run but this way I can slowly build a collection and if they are not as good as I remember I didn’t waste too much money. I started with blues. That is the other problem, I want ALL the spectrum. I want white, light blue, sky blue, cerulean blue, ultramarine blue, cobalt blue,...

Slaughterhouse Five

By on Mar 15, 2017

Here we go with another post about things I should have done long before I actually did. I suppose waiting on Kurt Vonnegut isn’t quite as bad as To Kill a Mockingbird or some of the others I’ve been catching up on, but I wish I had read it sooner.Slaughterhouse Five was put into my head by the movie “Footloose”. I’m pretty sure it was “Footloose.” It was a throwaway joke about how cultured the big city boy was. Just the name of the book captured my imagination. I somehow mingled it with the Chicago Seven. I Assumed it had something to do with an incident involving 5 African-American kids and a slaughterhouse. I created a plot that now sounds much like the plot of To Kill a Mockingbird but with the children on trial. My brother-in-law likes reading classic books. We talk about books with one another and I appreciate hearing his insight. I had...

Still doing line-work. This is a bit of a throw back for me. Young and dumb… well I suppose the dumb still applies. It has been a while since I used this “handle” and now I just find it cringe inducing. I’m trying to keep busy though which is the important part.I really just wanted to work on the background but wanted to put something in front that was simple yet interesting. I used to work on lettering for hours with no real results so I gave up on it. Now that I’ve been focusing on developing simple textures and lines I thought I would go back and apply that to my lettering. All-in-all I am happy with the result if not embarrassed by the content. So as you can tell I’m very focused on process right now. I think that is both a good thing and a bad thing. I think I’m focused on process as a means to let myself do silly or bad drawings. I have a...

Beer Talk

By on Mar 6, 2017

Just look at that beauty. I have discovered a new cooler at my local liquor store. I primarily focus on micro-brews and specifically Wisconsin micro-brews but the cooler I’ve been exploring lately has imports. Honestly, I don’t know enough about import beers. I’ve heard rumors that there are no “true” import beers in America. There are foreign recipes that are then brewed here which is why our Guinness doesn’t taste like the real thing, but that could be totally wrong……OK, I’m back. Just did some fruitless research and I still know no more about importing beer. Anyway, this new cooler has some interesting new options. I was going to a friend’s house for an evening of drinking and Dungeons & Dragons so when I saw this I knew it just had to be.All-in-all it wasn’t bad. The alcohol content was pretty high so it was a...

Pokémon GO! Update

By on Feb 13, 2017

It has been a little while since I posted one of these. I spent all Friday coding so my head was splitting. I took off a little early and the weather was nice so I went and did some Pokémoning. It was a nice park with a Onyx nest. There were huge signs nailed to the trees cautioning people of thin ice. I saw at least 20 people just out wandering around on the ice. I should also mention the temperature was around 40º.Milwaukee’s Best PrinterQuality Online Printing
