A Couple of Portraits

By on Apr 20, 2021

Finished up my paintings. They are a present for my wife. She has been asking for some paintings of the girls for a while now. I feel a little weird posting these. I like to avoid pictures of them but I didn’t do very current pictures and I think they are abstract enough it won’t bug me too much.     I started with an idea that I would used the posterized look but instead of paint I would use varing pen and ink textures for the different levels. I chickened out from that idea. I used to paint like this alot but moved away from it because they started to feel stale. People seem to like them but after a while I started loosing interest.     I start by choosing a picture and working on the computer to even out some of the shadows and bring out the highlights. Then I’ll print that out and draw my outlines. I always start with the darkest color...

Take On Meeeeeeee

By on Apr 16, 2021

My youngest daughter and I have a bit of a ritual that we go through every night. We will read a chapter or two of a chapter book, brush her teeth and while tucking her in bed, we watch a few videos before turning out the lights and saying good night. We started watching old 80’s videos and after watching Michael Jackson videos we migrated over to Weird Al. She was fascinated by Weird Al’s spin on Michael Jackson’s songs. We then went down a bit of a rabbit hole of covers, specifically covers of Take On Me…   Original   Weezer   Bluegrass   Swing   Toothbrush (her favorite)   Floppotron   Unplugged (and how we usually close out the tuck-in)

Finishing up and a visit from the Easter Bunny

By on Apr 13, 2021

The Easter Bunny brought me this little guy…     Been taking it easy lately but my drawing is almost there. I am tempted to say it is done but I am going to give it one more night’s work. It always helps to see it here. For what ever reason, I am able to see it a little differently. It makes it easier to evaluate and see what needs more work.     It’s crunch time now. I have to get this and two more drawings done by this weekend. Really before then because I have to print them on wood before the weekend. It is getting tight but I think I can pull it off. The thing I’m really worried about is whether or not my drawings of the kids are going to work out. I’m trying to use textures and pattern for them and I don’t know if it will work. It kinda works in my head but that almost never translates to the real world. We will wait...

Turns out units of measurement are really important

By on Apr 9, 2021

Had to design some packaging today. Spent a while creating a dieline. My dielines always take a couple tries but this first shot was a little worse than most…     Yes, that water bottle is supposed to fit in that. Always check your units of measurement! You can measure 100 times before cutting but if you are measuring in inches but designing in metric… things aren’t going to workout.

Actually got sick.

By on Apr 7, 2021

Ugh, I actually got sick. Not the Rona, had to go to the doctor I was so sick. Never had a fever or anything, just felt lousy for almost 2 weeks. It’s weird because I haven’t been sick in a long time. That has been an upside of wearing masks and everybody washing their hands. They say the flu numbers are way down this year and I can definitely see why. So that’s why the site was quiet for a little while. I am back at it though…     Taking a little break was kinda nice too. Just getting back into the swing of things. I have been working on my latest art project. I’ve been slow rolling it but I will share some pictures soon.
