I Present the Quokka…

By on Aug 19, 2020

From the land that brought you Syndey Funnel Spiders, Taipan Snakes and Drop Bears comes an animal so cute and adorable it almost makes up for those deadly monstrosities. I present the quokka…     They aren’t just adorable, they are also super friendly. There is actually a page on Australia.com with tips on how to get a good selfie with the little critter.     I thought it might be too good to be true but indeed Snopes even had an article because so many people, myself included, found this marsupial’s existence too good to be true.     Just look at that little gal!

Another Cactus Update

By on Aug 18, 2020

I planted a few cacti about 3 weeks ago. I planted them at the zoo. I found a small, out of the way path and I put them there. I didn’t think of them much after that. Well that’s not entirely true, I thought about them constantly for about 2 days and then I kind of forgot about them. I went to the zoo over the weekend and checked on my little sculptures. I figured they would be gone but they weren’t. They were still there. A little worse for wear but they were still there. It looked as though some kids had ran across them and pulled them out of the ground but their parent had hastily replanted them. The zoo was kind of busy so I didn’t have time to fix them at all but next time I go I will fix them up and perhaps plant some more. …And now for something totally different. See this kid?     He is your ordinary, everyday kid. His name is...

An Anniversary

By on Aug 14, 2020

My wife and I had an anniversary. We’ve been together for a little while now but we’ve been so busy we didn’t really have a chance to celebrate. This year has made it a little hard to celebrate anything. We kind of ditched out on birthdays too. Anyway, I made up a little card and we followed it up with a couple of shots. Here’s to one more year… She has been the only thing that’s kept me going. We were able to get an evening to ourselves. We had dinner at a little local place but we weren’t quite ready to go home afterward so we stopped at the grocery store, grabbed a couple of tall-boys and hung out at the park for a little bit before going home. Living life to the fullest.

Wait…WHAT?

By on Aug 13, 2020

So, I just found out something that really blew my mind. I’m sure you are familiar with The Leaning Tower of Pisa…     We’ve all seen it. Well maybe not in real life, and maybe that’s the problem, but images of it are everywhere. It is one of those things that everybody knows about. I just found out something that just blew my mind. Maybe it’s just because I’ve never really thought about it, but do you know what is on the inside? Rooms? The outside would suggest 7 or 8 floors? What is really inside?     Nothing. That’s right. Nothing. There are some stairs but other than that it is hollow. I could not believe it so I went to the tower’s website, http://www.towerofpisa.org/ and sure enough, nothing. So my mind has been sufficiently blown for the day.

Wrong Number

By on Aug 12, 2020

A few years ago my wife and I got new phones. We had to get new phone numbers too. My wife wrote her phone number down on a piece of paper that I put in my wallet and I kept it there but never programmed it into my phone. She went out of town for the weekend and I tried giving her a call. When the person I dialed picked up he had a very deep voice and answered with a, “Yeah?” Me: Uh, [my wife’s name]? Him: Nah. Me: I’m sorry I have the wrong number. Him: [click] I checked the number she wrote on the paper and dialed it again… Same deep voice: Yeah? Me: [my wife’s name]? Him: [laughing] Nah man! Me: Dang it! She gave me the wrong number. Him: [laughing super hard] Me: I’m sorry. Have a good day. Him: [Trying to stop laughing] Hey man, hang it there. That kinda girl ain’t worth it anyways. Me: That’s my wife. Him: AAAHHHHH HAAAHHHH...

Teach a Man to Fish…

By on Aug 11, 2020

“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach him how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime”  – Lao Tzu   That has been rattling around in my head for a little while now. It seems like a simple thing. It makes sense, but have you ever actually tried to teach someone how to do something? Not just show them how to do something but actually teach them? It requires an intense amount of attention, skill, observation and patience. You have to demonstrate and listen. You have to observe intensely and try to see what the other person is seeing. I think most people hear that and think, “yeah just teach them how to fish,” but it really means dedicate yourself to that person. You have to become a mentor. Your life becomes intertwined with theirs, even if it is for a short period of time. It is so much easier to just give someone a fish. Most people...
