My Next Spoopy Buildable

By on Oct 13, 2020

I told you Inktober was really sparking my creativity. I started my next buildable…     For a first draft, it turned out real well. I have to do some work yet, but if all goes well I will send these out before Halloween. Then again, we will have to see where this month takes us. I’m having a bit of trouble with the hood I originally made it as a separate, removable piece, which I like but I haven’t quite figured out the size or shape yet.

Inktober 2020…Day 7: Fancy

By on Oct 12, 2020

I’m not sure if this tracks or not.     It is supposed to be lace, because, what is fancier than lace? Like I said, I’m not sure if this one works or not but all-in-all I’m happy with how it turned out. It is a little abstract. I was trying to work with the negative space a little too.

Inktober 2020…Day 6: Rodent

By on Oct 9, 2020

I try hard not to be to negative about my drawings but that leg and foot really drive me crazy. I am trying to move on and not let it bother me but that foot is SO bad. The real problem is with mice feet. The drawing isn’t that far off but I just hate how it looks!

Inktober 2020…Day 5: Blade

By on Oct 8, 2020

I’m still having a blast with this year. I’m trying to do some different stuff and mix it up a bit. This is from an old cartoon called “The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy.” The grim reaper has to hang out with a couple of kids. I can’t remember the reason why but that doesn’t really matter. The show was weird and silly and surprisingly dark at times. Also the Grim Reaper had a Jamaican accent.     I tried to push this drawing a little by using the whole spread which is something I rarely do. The best thing about Inktober this year is how much it has sparked for me. I have a sticker/bookmark from day 1, a greeting card from day 3 and I am going to make a buildable inspired by this. I’m going to try to get this one out before the end of the month but we will see about that.

Inktober 2020…Day 4: Radio

By on Oct 7, 2020

This one really takes me back. When I was little I used to draw 3 things: skateboard ramps, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and boomboxes. I loved drawing boomboxes. I knew I wanted to draw a boombox for “Radio” but I wasn’t sure how I wanted to approach it so instead of doing a very precise accurate representation, I decided to channel my younger self and just draw.     All I had going through my head the whole time I was drawing was LL Cool J’s “I Can’t Live Without My Radio.”

Inktober 2020…Day 3: Bulky

By on Oct 6, 2020

This is one I wasn’t sure about. I started thinking about it while I was finishing up the wisp but really didn’t know what I was going to do. I let the word rattle around in my head while we enjoyed our weekend away. We decided to visit a pumpkin patch and get some pumpkins. We were in the middle of nowhere. This wasn’t some touristy, roadside suburban pumpkin stand, oh no, we had to tromp through the mud and find our pumpkins. The pumpkin patches were surrounded by corn fields, tall grasses and other farmland…     I off-handedly made a joke to my wife about how it would be a good place to dispose of a body and I then knew how I was going to handle “bulky.”     Huh, that got dark quick. Sometimes I’m a little disturbed by my sense of humor too. I might turn this into a greeting card. I haven’t figured out the...

Inktober 2020…Day 2: Wisp

By on Oct 5, 2020

I don’t know why but I have always been fascinated by will-o’-the-wisps. They are phantom lights that appear in wooded areas, especially swamps, bogs and marshes. They can be explained as a natural phenomenon caused by chemicals released during organic decay which is why they are more common in swamps and bogs. Travelers would see them at night and decide to investigate only to get lost or trapped in the bog, never to be seen again. Like many dangerous things, they became part of folklore and stories were made to warn people from following the lights. When I saw the prompt was wisp, I knew immediately I was going to draw one but I wasn’t sure how. There have been many depictions that I could copy or draw upon but I just did a magikarp and I wanted to do something that wasn’t necessarily just copying someone else’s art. We took a trip this weekend and while...

Inktober 2020…Day 1: Fish

By on Oct 5, 2020

Inktober is officially under way! For whatever reason I usually start with a Pokémon so a Magikarp seemed appropriate. I’ve already started cleaning the final scan to get it ready as a sticker…     Feeling pretty good about things this year. I’m already having fun and I already know what I’m doing for Day 2 but I haven’t figured how I’m going to pull it off yet.
