Thanksgiving Greetings

By

Hey it’s been a while. I haven’t posted anything for a couple weeks so I thought I’d just post a little something. I don’t really know what to write about but Thanksgiving just passed so I suppose that is something.

As is usually the case, we spend Thanksgiving with my wife’s family. Her mother likes to have all the family over, so we all cram into her house and hang out for the weekend. The men, of which I am not one, go hunting and watch football. Normally I just hang out, drink beer and try to sneak in a nap or two. This year was a bit different though. My nephews and I went Poké Hunting. We had a great time. I originally started playing Pokémon GO to hang out with them and this weekend was exactly why. The three of us got all bundled up and went out in the chilly weather.

We played the game a bunch but we also walked a four mile nature trail that went along a small creek. We rescued a soccer ball from the creek and kicked it all the way home only to abandon it in my mother-in-law’s garage. Mostly we just talked.

I have never been a hunter. My dad was more of a city-boy so he wasn’t a hunter and in Florida hunting wasn’t really part of the culture the way it is here. I have heard about the camaraderie and bonding that occurs but I don’t have the stomach for the killing. We were playing Pokémon but that really wasn’t what was fun. All the things that I will remember about our outings have nothing to do with Pokémon. We were able to talk about stuff that I don’t know if they have someone older they are comfortable talking to. Maybe I’m over analyzing it but it seemed as though, because we were all playing the game they could relate to me in a way they might not with other aunts and uncles. Or I could be completely wrong. Who knows? I just know that was one of the best Thanksgivings I’ve had with those guys.
