Magikarp Stickers

I am making up for my productive October by sitting around wasting time watching stupid videos on my phone. That’s not the only thing I’ve been doing, but close. I have been running again. Man, it is ugly. After not running for 6 months, and exchanging whiskey for exercise, the results have been less than stellar. Last night I had my first decent run which was only 3 miles and it wiped me out for the evening. Turns out carrying an extra 25 lbs can be really exhausting. It’s slowing coming back though. Last week I was barely pulling off 2 mile runs so I am making progress. Work has been bananas too. I am definitely not complaining about that. I love being busy at work. Sure it cuts into my personal projects, which is why the reapers haven’t gone out yet, but there is something to be said about job security. I haven’t been totally idle though…

I was able to finish up these guys. This started as a prompt from Inktober. It is another in my Pokémon drawing project. I made some stickers and I will be producing a bookmark too. I eventually plan on working through the entire Pokédex but that is a project that could take forever. These are another one of those projects that I was really excited about at the start, started to lose interest, decided I didn’t like it but kept working to finally finished them. I’m not sure how I really feel about them. Maybe I’m too close and familiar with them. It didn’t help that the first person I showed is a Pokémon purist who immediately started negatively commenting on all the little flourishes I made deviating from the original design. I’m not letting that get me down though. It’s too easy to get caught up in the things that didn’t work.

Speaking of weird videos… did I say mention weird videos? Don’t over think my transitions! Anyway, I ran across this interesting video. This soccer team started live streaming their games and they used automated camera that utilized software that would automatically track the soccer ball. The viewers started noticing a problem though. The software recognized a referee’s bald head as a ball so it would drift away from the action and focus on the ref’s head…

There is something about this that intrigues me. For me it speaks to the art behind things. Computers and AI are amazing but videos like this show the subtle nuances of being human. They reveal the art and creativity that is lurking just beneath the surface of everyday life.
